Spring Has Sprung!

Hey kind krafters, and HAPPY SPRING! As of March 20th, we are officially done with winter! Personally, I am so pumped to be able to go outside again without slipping down icy staircases, and having my hair messed up every day by the hail/rain/snow. To help to shed our winter layers, I am going to share some of my favourite ways to get your spring cleaning underway and to spend your sunny days!

Time to de-clutter!

Too much in your wardrobe? Get rid of your old clothes that haven’t been worn in years by donating them to second-hand stores near you. There are several cool shops in the HRM area where they will find a new home for you unwanted clothes like Makenew Curated Thrift Shop, Lost & Found Art Vintage Kitsch, and Elsie’s Used Clothes. Another great organization to donate your dresses to is the Glass Slipper (https://www.facebook.com/GlassSlipperOrganization/). If you’ve been thinking about finally parting with your prom dress, this is the perfect place to donate it. The volunteers at Glass Slipper try to make sure that everyone can enjoy their dress shopping experience, even if they can’t afford to buy one!

Flower power your house!

I am a lover of flowers and think that they should be scattered over every room in the house. Unfortunately, my immediate family seem unable to keep them alive for more than three days – my sister even killed a cactus. But if you have more luck than I do with flowers, I would highly recommend bringing some into your home to help freshen up your day! Some great places to find some beautiful flowers are: Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market, The Flower Shop, and Props Floral Designs.

Restock with healthy produce!

A final way that I love to signal the start of spring, is by refilling my kitchen with fresh produce. If you stock up with all your favourite fruits and veggies, your fridge will become more colourful and interesting with all of these natural foods. Coming out of winter where eating habits may not have been the best (AKA lots of storm chips), it’s so important to keep your diet on the right track! The Halifax Seaport Farmer’s Market, Organic Earth Market, and Local Source Market are all great options when buying your goods!

THE GREAT OUTDOORS

I know it might be a while since some of us ventured outside and did activities that didn’t involve a shovel. Now that the snow is slowly clearing away, we can all start back up with enjoying nature and having fun in the fresh air! Here are some of the best ways to enjoy your spring!!

Visit the trails!

I’m lucky because I live right along the Rails for Trails and so I can go for a nice walk anytime! If you don’t live close to a trail, there is probably one within bussing distance anyway. Check out the AllTrails app (https://www.alltrails.com) that Niki helped to map out to find accessible trails for you. As well as walking trails, there are also beautiful parks that are opening back up after winter like the Public Gardens, Point Pleasant Park, and Shubie Park.

Visit quaint communities with friends!

Get a load of your best pals together and go for a stroll in a new town! You never know what you might find in these places, especially as they’re all starting to wake back up again for spring. Find out what’s happening close by and participate in the community’s activities and events! You might find your new favourite café, or the best bookshop you’ve seen in years (The Odd Book in Wolfville is pretty awesome)!!

There are so many more things to do as we enter this new season, but the most important thing is to let yourself have fun! Happy Spring Everyone!
