Hey kind krafters,

You’ve known me for quite a while now and so I thought I might tell you a little more about a certain side of me. Around the time that I started university I decided I wanted to start collecting postcards. I have never sent one of them, even though that is their intended use, but instead I have kept them all in a box or put them up on my wall. Whenever I go on a trip, I make sure to buy a postcard and if someone is going away, I’ll ask them if they could bring one back for me. In this blog, I’ll show you a few of my favourite ones and talk a bit about them. I think it’s so important to support our local artisans and buying  their cards is a pretty inexpensive and beautiful way to do so!

I got this postcard in Wolfville while I was in my second year at Acadia. It was painted by Shelley Crowe (visit shelleycroweart.com for more of her work!). This sign is definitely a staple for the town and I recently read about how important it is within the province. I think that this painting covers the essence of the town very well and is a picture I will treasure once I graduate.
This is a card print of one of Emma Fitzgerald’s pieces (visit emmafitzgerald.ca for more of her amazing work!). Emma’s pieces are sold all over and I fell in love with her style after being gifted her book of illustrations of Halifax called Hand Drawn Halifax. She is incredibly talented and this prom scene makes me remember Citadel High School’s prom pictures in the Public Gardens!

This postcard is one of my favourites! When I was visiting Newfoundland this past summer, a friend and I went into a random gift shop. At the back there were stacks on stacks of postcards from all over the world. I came across a group of postcards of Nova Scotia and went through. There was a really cheap deal on the postcards, so I bought a lot for my collection. What’s really cool about them, is that some of them have been used. So, you get an awesome picture on the front, but you also can read the messages sent between friends and family on the back. On one of them the sender mentioned visiting the Gardens and the Waegwoltic which are both special places to me!
I’m pretty sure this one speaks for itself. Poutine is one of my favourite foods and so someone brought this back for me after a trip to Quebec. A great gift!

This postcard was also a gift for me from a very special friend! It is of Schwartz Deli in Montreal and is painted by Jacques Tremblay. Many people have told me that says Shwartz is the best place to get a smoked meat sandwich (though that doesn’t mean much to me as a vegetarian). I love the cozy family vibe that you get from the painting and the vibrant colours in the snow.
This last one is of Royal Wootton Bassett where my family lives in England. This is the former town hall on the high street and is a favourite building of mine along with the church a bit further down the road. This piece is by Jenny Pepper and I bought it when I went back for a visit last February.

Thanks for reading!
Rhi xoxo
